In this session, I want to talk about how Klaytn will become Metaverse blockchain. Klaytn tries two approaches: strengthening and advertising L1’s transaction latency and providing the easy developer experience for ServiceChain (Klaytn’s L2). We first target the transaction latency. The transaction latency is the most important metric in terms of a single user. If the transaction is short enough, we can make a web2-like service even using blockchain technology. Secondly, we provide open-source metaverse packages so that any service developers easily use and modify the packages for their service. This includes auto-deployment tool, wallets, block explorers, DEXes, NFT marketplaces, Oracle connectors, bridges, etc. Service developers only concern their business logic.

Miner Extractable Value (MEV) has become an important factor in blockchain design and has been used to quantify the economic security of composed decentralized-finance (DeFi) smart contracts. A miner/validator can reorder, insert or censor blockchain transactions to increase the MEV accrued to them, thus making it essential to study the maximum value that can be extracted. In this work, we formulate MEV as a black-box optimization problem and propose a highly scalable and automated solver. Our optimization problem is defined as altering a set of input user transactions to maximize MEV. In this context, the underlying solution space constitutes possible reorderings of input transactions, along with insertions of new transactions by the miner on a given set of (composed) smart contracts. To maximize the MEV in this large solution space, we devise an intelligent agent that iteratively learns the underlying opaque objective function and converges to the optimum MEV. Our proposed learning-based design is agnostic to the underlying smart contracts and can therefore generalize to various DeFi contracts and arbitrary transactions.

Data is a key driver of modern economy and AI/machine learning, however, a lot of this data is sensitive and handling the sensitive data has caused unprecedented challenges for both individuals and businesses. These challenges will only get more severe as we move forward in the digital era. In this talk, I will talk about how Web3 technologies including decentralized identities, policy-compliant decentralized computation, and data sovereignty can help provide a paradigm shift to enable users and data owners to maintain better control of their data and get better benefits from their data, and break down data silos and enable data commons for public good through decentralized data science. By combining technologies including secure computing, differential privacy, federated learning, as well as blockchain technologies for data rights, we can build a platform for a responsible data economy, to enable more responsible use of data that maximizes social welfare & economic efficiency while protecting users’ data rights and enable fair distribution of value created from data.
