Michael wrote his first article on bitcoin in October 2011, and never looked back. A graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, he was the first hire at CoinDesk after it was acquired by Digital Currency Group in 2016, going on to create the Forbes Blockchain 50 which he edited for five years, until being admitted to the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship for career business reporters. After completing the fellowship he joined the Fortune newsroom, where he covered banking until April 2025, when he left to found Media Luna Creations, a research and consulting firm specializing in supporting open-source software projects and sustainable business models.
