Premier the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, is Bermuda’s 13th and youngest Premier when he was elected to the Government of Bermuda’s highest office at the age of 38.
Premier Burt graduated from Florida Air Academy, where he earned his private pilot’s license as a teenager. He is also an alumnus of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated cum laude and received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in Finance and Information Systems.
Premier Burt was initiated into the Nu Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated in the Spring of 1998. He was awarded the George Washington University Presidential Administrative Fellowship and received his Master of Science in Information Systems Development in 2003. Mr. Burt attained a Project Management Professional certification in 2009.
As an entrepreneur, in 2004, upon returning to Bermuda, Premier Burt started GMD Consulting Limited, an IT consulting company focusing on project management. He served as president from its inception until 2016, when he stepped down upon being appointed leader of the opposition. Premier Burt co-founded HITCH Limited and was the lead developer for the award-winning HITCH Mobile App, enabling Bermuda residents to hail taxis.
As the leader of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party since 2016, he has led his party to three landslide election victories in 2017, 2020, and 2025.
Since winning his first election and becoming Premier of Bermuda, he has led a Government with a progressive agenda of fairness, opportunity, and innovation. Under his leadership, the Progressive Labour Party Government has implemented transformational reforms that include the establishment of Bermuda’s first-ever statutory minimum wage, decriminalizing cannabis for personal possession, reducing payroll taxes on hardworking Bermudians to the lowest levels in the island’s history, while increasing taxes for high earners.
His Government has taken measures to ensure that Bermudians are supported, including increasing funding for professional development for teachers and scholarships for students, making a record investment in affordable housing, launching a Mortgage Guarantee Programme, reducing down payment and interest costs for first-time homeowners, and increasing seniors’ pensions seven times in line with the rate of inflation.
This has all been done while Premier Burt has worked tirelessly to position Bermuda as a global leader in digital finance and delivered Bermuda’s first budget surplus in over two decades last year.
In the past, Premier Burt has served on the Bermuda Tourism Board, National Training Board, as a Director of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and has been a Director of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.
Premier Burt and his wife Kristin have been married since 2012 and have two beautiful children, Nia and Edward.
